CORYATES is a small hamlet set in the beautiful WADDON VALLEY, 'off the beaten track', but within easy driving distance of nearby villages and towns.
Corfe Gate House was built of local quarried stone under a Welsh slate roof in 1865. Our galleried breakfast room, sitting room and three bedrooms all ensuite are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard.
The beautiful and historic village of ABBOTSBURY (with the Swannery, Tithe Barn and the world famous Sub Tropical Gardens) lies just four miles southwest. The award winning World Heritage status 'Jurassic' coastline, Hardy's Monument and the spectacular views they provide always delight our visitors
DORCHESTER, our County town, is of great interest Its fascinating history is preserved in its ancient Buildings and vividly portrayed in the fine County Museum. Every Wednesday there is a bustling indoor and outdoor Market.
WEYMOUTH offers a fine Georgian seafront with safe bathing and all the usual and expected seaside attractions. The
17th century Harbour provides a pleasant walk, as you absorb the history around you. Visitors can also enjoy cross channel excursions, deep sea fishing and a visit to the Nothe Fort – a Victorian fortress with a fine display of World War 11 memorabilia.
Weymouth & Portland are hosting the 2012 Olympic Sailing events.
PORTLAND too is home to some outstanding and themed attractions.The world famous Chesil Beach, Portland Castle, Lighthouse and the Stone Sculpture Park.

'Far From The Madding Crowd ' was filmed around Coryates. 'Major Boldwood's' dwelling, Waddon Manor, a beautiful Elizabethan manor house, overlooks the valley.
The name of our hamlet 'Coryates' is a derivation of the original name 'Corfe Gate', (gate in the corfe). The corfe being the hill or ridge that runs along the 'Coastal Path' to the north of the valley.
